MAPLETON – The PMD Arena and the Drayton and Moorefield fire halls are getting fresh coats of paint for $80,390.
Mapleton’s 2025 budget includes $90,000 to paint the three exteriors.
According to a township report, the fresh paint at the PMD Arena will “enhance the facility to the public.”
The report says the “refresh, to a modernized colour scheme, is well overdue and should also aid in the aging of the building exterior.
“Both Drayton and Moorefield fire halls are also due for exterior paint,” it continues.
“It is important to have all of our facilities maintained in the best possible condition and displayed to the public as well kept.
“Exterior paint is one way to keep them looking clean and also aids in protecting the structures [from] the elements, therefore assisting in the aging process.”
Painting the three buildings was combined into one project to reduce costs, staff note.
J-K Industrial and Commercial Painting has already gotten to work, noted public works director Jamie Morgan during a Mapleton council meeting on May 13:
“They’ve actually started to prep the PMD – doing some primer in that work now.”
Morgan brought the colours to council during that meeting to “make sure we were moving in the right direction.”
He said the black and grey colour scheme is more modern than the old blue colour.
“We’re just trying to make everything look the same in Mapleton and just dress everything up and bring it into 2025,” Morgan said.
Mayor Gregg Davidson said the designs “actually look very sharp … If it turns out that way it’s going to look fantastic.”
