Mapleton Family Day Fun Fair is Feb. 19

Event features pickleball, skating and more

MAPLETON – Local residents won’t have to go far to find Family Day fun on Feb. 19.

A Family Day Fun Fair featuring everything from pickleball to public skating will be held at the PMD arena in Drayton.

Hosted by the Township of Mapleton, the event begins with family pickleball from 8 to 11am. Participants must register for a 30-minute time slot by emailing recreation@mapleton.ca.

From 1 to 2pm a Stick and Puck session, sponsored by the Optimist Club of Moorefield, will be held on the arena ice surface.

From 2 to 5pm the ice will be open for public skating, sponsored by Pharmasave.

Also from 2 to 5pm there will be family games in the arena hall.

From 3 to 5pm families can enjoy s’mores, courtesy of Mapleton Fire Rescue.

Weather permitting, the outdoor rink at the PMD arena will be open for skating all day.

Having worked up an appetite with all that activity, families can wrap up their day at the arena with a lasagna supper, provided by the Drayton Legion, from 5:30 to 7pm.

Dinners must pre-order by Feb. 14 by emailing gbelec@cyg.net or calling 519-638-3324. Cost is $15 for adults and free for children seven and under.

Snake time

The Alma Optimist Club is also hosting a Family Day event.

The club is hosting a presentation by Sciensational Sssnakes beginning at 10am at the Alma Community Centre.

“Bring the whole family and come experience a morning of reptile entertainment. Learn all there is about snakes … Come out and discover the incredible world of reptiles,” club officials urge.

No advance registration is required, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

The event is free but donations to the Optimist Club will be accepted at the event.

For more information see the club’s Facebook page.
