Man killed in crash

GUELPH-ERAMOSA TWP. – A Burlington man died in a crash here when the car he was driving struck a tractor trailer on Oct 28 at about 5:25am.

OPP Constable Mark Cloes reported that county OPP officers were called to Wellington Road 86, north-west of Guelph. Officers and members of the Maryhill Fire Department found the collision on County Road 86 about 1 kilometre north of the 8th Line, north of Ariss. Preliminary investigation revealed at about 5:20am, a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am was heading north on County Road 86. A 1998 Freightliner Tractor and Wilson trailer, operated by Lloyd Hurst Transport of Palmerston was southbound on 86. The auto collided with the tractor trailer in the southbound lane, and the tractor trailer jackknifed, blocking the road.

The truck driver, Michael B. Hurst, 34, of Palmerston, was not hurt in the collision. The auto driver and lone occupant, a 45 year old Burlington man, was transported to the Guelph General Hospital by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries. Coroner Dr. John Ewing was notified and attended the scene of the collision.

Members of the West Region OPP Technical Collision Investigators and County of Wellington OPP Traffic Unit continue to investigate to determine the cause of the crash. The road was  closed for the duration of the investigation. The identity of the deceased was withheld pending notification of family members.
