Man facing robbery, weapons charges after incident at Mount Forest business

MOUNT FOREST – A local man faces robbery and weapons charges after pulling a replica handgun on a customer at a store here.

Wellington County OPP officers responded to a public disturbance call at a business on Main Street in Mount Forest on Sept. 14 at about 4:15pm.

Police say a man “was inside the business, yelling and causing a scene when a second person entered, pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the individual.

“There was a brief exchange then both individuals left and went in opposite directions. Officers located both people shortly after the incident occurred.”

No one was injured, but one person was taken into custody and a replica handgun was seized, police say.

Pressed for more details, OPP officials said no property was taken but the man with the gun intended “to steal from the victim while pointing the firearm at him.”

The accused and the victim are known to each other, police added.

Spencer Charles Lovell, 21, of Wellington North, was charged with:

  • robbery with a weapon;
  • using an imitation firearm while committing an offence;
  • possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • carrying a concealed weapon; and
  • two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

He was held for a bail hearing.
