Man charged in cattle truck rollover; 17 cows dead, some still missing

WELLINGTON NORTH – Police have charged a Woolwich Township man in connection with the rollover of a cattle truck here last week.

On June 27 at about  7:10pm emergency crews responded to the scene on Wellington Road 16 just south of Highway 89.

Police say the truck, which was carrying 98 head of cattle, left the road and rolled over.

Seventeen cows died in the crash or had to be euthanized on-site due to their injuries, while another 25 escaped, some of which are still at large.

The rest were taken to a stock yard.

The 38-year-old male driver from Woolwich has been charged with careless driving. He is set to appear in court in September.

Police did not immediately respond to an Advertiser request about why the man’s name was not released.
