Making a scene for mental health: A fundraising event to support the Homewood Research Institute
Homewood Health Centre is presenting a one-night-only showing of Hold Mommy’s Cigarette, a hilarious, heartbreaking and uplifting one-woman play, to raise funds for the Homewood Research Institute (HRI).
The show will take place on May 1 at the River Run Centre in Guelph.
HRI is conducting vital research to address the mounting crisis of mental illness related to post-traumatic stress disorder.
Actor and comedian, Shelley Marshall will take the audience on an adventure through her real-life experience, growing up in a dysfunctional environment fraught with depression, trauma and suicide.
The show, which kicks off Mental Health Week, is an autobiographical play that details Marshall’s personal struggle with mental illness, addressing her father’s suicide and her own suicide attempt, as well as her journey back to purpose and fulfillment.
