Lots of candidates filing in south Wellington

It looks like there could be a race for Wellington County Ward 9 (Erin), as current Erin councillor Barb Tocher faces off against Pierre Brianceau.

Neither are strangers to the political arena.

Tocher has considerable experience at both the Erin Township and Town of Erin council tables, as well as having served a term as Wellington County warden.

Brianceau served as the Erin trustee on the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) and was involved in the creation of Centre 2000.

As election nominations trickle through, it appears there could be a mix of new and incumbent councillors.

Those currently listed as having filed are Jamie Cheyne, Evelyn McLean, John Brennan (incumbent) and Josie Wintersinger (incumbent).

Thus far, only Allan Alls has filed to run for mayor.

Similarly, incumbent Kathryn Cooper is the only person to file for the local trustee position for the UGDSB.

Puslinch

In Puslinch Township, the race is still between current Mayor Dennis Lever and previous mayor Brad Whitcombe.

Like Erin, it could be a mix of incumbent and new councillors, as five names have been filed for the four councillor positions.

They are: Daina Makinson, Ken Roth (incumbent), Matthew Bulmer (former councillor), Wayne Stokley (incumbent) and Cameron Tuck.

In Wellington County Ward 7 current county councillor Don McKay will go up against newcomer Kevin Johnson.
