Lot descriptions puzzle councillors

It was not the closing of the road allowance that caused minor concern at Minto council recently, but the wording of a bylaw combining old and new descriptions of a property.

Mayor David Anderson said the new bylaw authorizes the closing of an unused road allowance to establish a new subdivision off of Dogtown Lane “possibly.”

Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen found it interesting that Dogtown Lane is the new name for the road, but the terms Concession 14 and 15 are also used - instead of Line 14 and 15.

Clerk Barb Wilson suggested that is the way the property is described at the registry office.

Dirksen continued to find it interesting because most properties are described as using all the old descriptions or all the new descriptions since the renaming of Minto roads.

“It’s like mixing Imperial and Metric,” Dirksen said.

“I’ve never noticed it done this way before.”
