LONDON – Type Diabeat It announces the 5th annual 5k Run/Walk for Diabetes, set to take place on Sept. 7 at Springbank Park from 8am to 12pm.

The community is invited to join for a morning of fitness, fun and fundraising.

The  goal is to raise $100,000 to support the organization’s mandate to tackle unhealthy eating – one of the behavioral risk factors of Type 2 diabetes.

Recognizing the significant influence of diet on health outcomes, especially in communities facing systemic inequities, the organization strives to make a difference through the programs and services.

Type Diabeat It sees food as a multifaceted solution: a tool for health, a resource for empowerment, a means for equity, and a response to food insecurity.

The organization recognizes that poverty significantly impacts health outcomes, and is dedicated to addressing these challenges head-on.

“We believe we are empowering through food,” says Type Diabeat It CEO Mystery Furtado.

This year, the fundraising is in support of their 1.5-acre project.

This initiative will provide diabetics with monthly food boxes, provide hot cultural meals to children and youths living in low-income housing and bolster the food literacy efforts across the city.

The organization encourages families to join the event on Sept. 7 for a morning filled with live music by DJ Joze, face painting, Zumba session by Dina Umwali, corn on a cob, fruit kebab and a cool down fitness session with one of London’s leading physical trainers, Anique of Daley Fitness.

Registration is available online at diabeat-it.ca/annual-5k-run.
