Local theatre company sets out to raise funds for orphanage in Peru

In the Light Productions is preparing to raise the curtain on the latest play written by local playwrights Deborah Briggs and Alan Garrett.
The Missing Peace will be performed at Guelph Little Theatre, opening Dec. 15 and running through Dec. 22.
All proceeds from the production will be donated to iProjects (www.iprojects.ca), a Canadian charity, and will be used to help in the construction of an orphanage in the jungles of Peru.
The Missing Peace is a Christmas show combining comedy and tender, thought provoking moments.
It is a very different look at the traditional Nativity story. When Joe Human (played by Rob Gray) unexpectedly receives a surprise gift from an angel (Lloyd Lindsay), his life is turned upside down.
Go back in time and re-live the history, in ways people have never thought before. Live music and vocal ensembles add to each scene.
The production team for The Missing Peace includes Greg Insley as producer, Deborah Briggs as director, and Alan Garrett as the musical director.
“I am enjoying being a part of a team that is so focused and dedicated, not to mention the fact, that this show is a fund raiser for mission work I believe in,” said Insley. “It’s a dream come true to have such a professional cast and crew to work with, using their gifts and energy to make a difference in the world.”
The Missing Peace was cast in September, with many of the best actors known to the Guelph Community; including seasoned actors Lindsay and Gray.
Since its inception last year, iProjects has raised over $80,000 for infrastructural projects that help improve the lives of some of the world’s most poor and vulnerable people.
To date it has helped fund the completion of a carpentry school in Tarapoto, Peru, and an elementary school in Puerto Maldonado, Peru.
Both projects are now teaching the next generation of leaders.
IProjects is also involved in a youth centre development that will help children affected by the AIDS crisis in Lesotho, Africa.  Money raised by this production will assist in the construction of an orphanage in Peru and a halfway house and rehabilitation centre for troubled youth.
For tickets, contact the Guelph Little Theatre box office at 519-821-0270 or online at guelphlittletheatre.com. All tickets are $17.  GLT accepts Visa, MasterCard, and debit cards.
