Local hospitals allotted over $1 million from Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The three hospitals in Wellington County will receive a combined $1 million in funding to address critical upgrades, repairs and maintenance.

Across Ontario, 129 hospitals are receiving support through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.

This includes $50 million for COVID-19-related and other urgent projects.

In a Sept. 15 press release, Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece announced North Wellington Health Care Corporation, which operates hospitals in Palmerston and Mount Forest, will receive $504,807, from a $3.8 million allocation for hospitals across the riding.

Ministry of Health officials reported on Sept. 16 that Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Centre Wellington will receive $500,000 from the fund.

“We’re fortunate to have excellent hospitals in our area,” Pettapiece said. “This funding will go a long way to help them to continue providing good care to all of us.”

He added, “It will mean safe and comfortable spaces for patients, while making sure staff are supported with modern facilities.”

Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott stated, “Our ongoing investments to support essential projects like repairing roofs and windows and adding more isolation spaces can make a big difference to a patient’s experience.”
