Local girls to compete in regional pageant

Over 30 girls, including several from Wellington County, will compete in the Miss Mid West and Princess Pageant in Walkerton on July 16.

Held at 7:30pm on the main floor of the Walkerton community centre, the pageant is the largest of its kind in mid-western Ontario, featuring contestants from Wellington, Huron, Perth, Grey, and Bruce Counties.

The theme for the event will be Grease, and an addition will be the presentation of the Jordan Fawcett memorial award in honour of a past Ontario Little Miss Princess who passed away last year.

Brittany Graul, the 2010-11 Ontario Miss Mid West Queen, and Kaylee Hughes, the 2010-11 Ontario Little Miss Princess, will be handing their titles to the two pageant winners.

Over the past year, Graul has raised money for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) and at next week’s pageant will present a cheque to a CNIB official.

Girls from Wellington County competing in this year’s competitions are:

– Kelsey Allen, sponsored by the Arthur Agricultural Society;

– Emily Bugess, sponsored by the Ontario Firefighters Association;

– Ashley Buyers, sponsored by the Mount Forest Agricultural Society;

– Ali Ivey, sponsored by the Harriston Agricultural Society; and

– Sara Parkinson, sponsored by the Erin Agricultural Society.
