Local funeral home provides 'green burials'
The Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home is now one of only two Green Burial Council certified funeral homes in Ontario.
The Green Burial Council is a not-for-profit organization that has developed a certification program that is bringing about a new ethic in death care rooted in transparency, accountability and ecological responsibility.
“Aside from offering the families of the Fergus and Elora area with the traditional services and cremation as we always have, we are proud to offer many environmentally friendly options such as urns, caskets, register book packages and non toxic restorative preservation products,” said Scott Giddy.
To gain acceptance into the council, a funeral provider must offer environmentally friendly options to families who are seeking a “true green” burial.
Giddy will be meeting with the executive director of the council in August to further familiarize himself with the council and it’s work.
