Local fire departments receive over $35,000 from Pike Lake fundraiser

Over the past 50 years Pike Lake’s has supported the local community.

A fundraiser draw in memory of Irv Cowen, the late owner of Pike Lake, was held on Sept. 3 and raised $35,325 to be shared by both the Minto and Wellington North fire departments.

Ron MacEachern, fire chief of the Mount Forest detachment of the Wellington North department, said they plan to purchase a new trailer for their ATV rescue vehicle.

Chris Harrow, chief of the Minto Fire Department, said his department’s half of the proceeds will go to purchase new air tanks as well as several other necessary pieces of equipment.

All prizes were donated by Pike Lake Golf Centre Limited and the draw was sponsored by the Minto Lions Club.

The Cowen, Forrest and Brown families thanked everyone who helped raise the money for the firefighters.

Among the draw winners, were: Jamie McLellan, who won a new gas golf cart, Stephan Wyile, who won a campsite for 2012, and Erika Kelly, who won a 2012 golf membership.
