Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington will be receiving a grant of $20,000, MPP Liz Sandals announced Jan. 26.

The money will be used to develop a revenue generating strategy for credit and debt counselling and employee assistance programs and services that will improve access and affordability for individuals.

Sandals said, “Many families are struggling with high debt loads as a result of the recession. This Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will help expand Credit and Debt Counselling Services in Guelph and Wellington at a time when many in our community could benefit.”

Executive director for Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington Kate Power said, “It enables us to explore strategies to sustainably deliver a broader range of much-needed financial coaching and literacy services across Guelph-Wellington.”

She added, “In addition, we will be exploring methods in which smaller companies and not-for-profit agencies can afford to offer counselling support to their employees through employee assistance programs.”
