Local Dojo hosts tourney in Elora

On Sunday Nov. 14, Gorge Karate Students participated in the Elmira Karate Shiai 2010 hosted by the Elmira Karate Dojo.   This event, or Shiai in Japanese, is a tournament where students test their skills in three different areas: Kata, Kumite (sparring) and Kobudo (weapons). 

Winners from Elora are:

PeeWee Kids (6&7yrs) Orange and Green Belt – Natalia Van Esch 2nd Kumite;

Junior Kids (8&9 yrs) Orange & Green Belt –  Kieran LeGrow 2nd Kata & 1st Kumite;

Senior Kids (age 10) Orange & Green Belt – MacKenzie Nelson  2nd Kata & 1st Kumite, Molly Farquhar 3rd Kata, Blaire Bauman 2nd Kumite;

Senior Kids (11-12 yrs) Orange and Green Belt – Annie Farquhar 2nd Kata;

Senior Kids (10-12 yrs) Blue & Brown Belt; Francesca Van Esch 2nd Kata, Michael Corbett 1st Kumite;

Junior Kids Kobudo (10 & under) White, Yellow & Orange Belt – Natalia Van Esch 1st;

Junior Kids Kobudo (10 & Under) Green, Blue & Brown Belt – Francesca Van Esch 2nd;

Teen (13-15 yrs) White, Yellow & Orange Belt – Colleen McNulty 2nd Kata & 2nd Kumite;

Men (16+) White, Yellow, Orange & Green Belt – Brad Bauman 1st Kumite,

Women (16+) White, Yellow, Orange & Green Belt – Astrid Van Esch 3rd Kata, 2nd Kumite & 3rd Kobudo, Susan Stimpson 3rd Kumite;

Men (16+) Blue & Brown Belt – Philippe Campbell 2nd Kumite, Jerry Van Esch – 3rd Kumite & 3rd Kobudo.
