Barbara and Mark Vandersluis hosted the third annual VanderHodges Lobsterfest on July 26 at the Royal Canadian Legion here, as well as a scramble golf tournament at the Fergus Golf Club sponsored by Doyle Transportation of Guelph.

Ten teams took part in the golf tournament and 90 people took part in the Lobsterfest.  Attendees were served a fresh Atlantic 1.75 to 2-pound lobster, or a chicken dinner prepared by Frabert’s Fresh Foods.

Donations received from local businesses and individuals were able to provide a nice competition on the silent auction, raising additional funds.

As well, the Vertical Dance Team from Journey’s Fitness and Lifestyle Studio of Guelph was able to raise additional money for Team Lynsey.

The event was created to honour family members Gregg Hodges, Toos Vandersluis and Larry Williamson, who all lost their battles with cancer.

The event raised $4,264 for the Canadian Cancer Society during an online donation campaign, along with the Lobsterfest event. There was also $920 in pledges to bring the event total to $5,184.
