Living snow fences concept endorsed by councillor

Walt Visser thinks there is a lot to learn from Green Legacy’s living snow fence program.

On Oct. 28, the Centre Wellington councillor commented on the number of sites involved in the living snow fence program offered through Green Legacy.

“Aside from having 30 schools involved in planting and growing trees, Green Legacy is strongly involved in the living snow fence program,” Visser said.

He contended the advantages are numerous.

“First of all [unlike traditional snow fences] you don’t have to put them up and take them down every year, then store them.”

He added that living snow fences can do a much more effective job.

Visser said a three- or four-foot traditional snow fence might last until the first winter storm.

“Living snow fences improve the quality of the land and safety as well,” he said.
