The 2014 Season at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse continues with a fun and frothy smash-hit Broadway musical.
Legally Blonde, based on the popular movie with Reese Witherspoon, bends and snaps its way onto the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse stage April 23 to May 18.
“Legally Blonde is a clever musical comedy about female empowerment,” says Alex Mustakas, artistic director of Drayton Entertainment.
“Featuring a host of superb songs and spectacular dance numbers, this production will surely leave audiences tickled pink.”
The story follows sorority president Elle Woods who, after being dumped by her boyfriend Warner, is determined to win him back.
She crosses the country on a mission to find love at Harvard Law School but her questionable legal skills are put to the ultimate test when she must defend a workout queen in a scandalous murder trial.
Will pink save the day?
Leading the creative team is director David Connolly, a Drayton Entertainment veteran with directing credits for Disney’s High School Musical and Crazy For You at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse.
Connolly is joined by music director Robert Foster, choreographer Robin Calvert, set and costume designer Ivan Brozic, and lighting designer Kevin Fraser.
The production features an array of talent, including Jayme Armstrong as the misjudged blonde bombshell Elle Woods. Armstrong’s list of credits include playing Maria in The Sound of Music and Judy in 9 To 5: The Musical.
Elle’s ex-leading man, Warner Hunting III, is portrayed by Patrick Cook.
Taking on the role as local salon owner, brash Paulette Bonafonte, is Kristen Peace.
Valerie Stanois plays Brooke Wyndham, the fellow Delta Nu sorority sister turned fitness queen turned murder suspect. JD Nicholsen is the merciless Harvard Law professor Callahan.
More than just a stylish present wrapped in a pink bow, Legally Blonde has an outstanding pedigree. From the novel to the hit movie, the musical also ran for over 600 performances on Broadway, earning seven Tony Award nominations, ten Drama Desk Award nominations, and countless others.
The St. Jacobs Country Playhouse will be bursting in pink from April 23 to May 18 with Legally Blonde.
