Leaf composting at county sites unlikely
It seems Minto’s request to have leaf composting at local landfill sites is on the back burner - for now.
Mayor David Anderson reported from county council that while Minto’s idea was acknowledged at county council last month, there is insufficient space at all of Wellington’s landfill sites and transfer stations to provide such a service.
In addition, he said, costs to implement the service would be roughly $193,000.
What Anderson hopes to do is bring up the item as county council reviews its five year plan of capital projects.
“I think this should still be looked at,” he said.
The other issue is if leaf collection should be in bags or via a bin system, he noted.
