The waste facility here will ring in the new year as a long-term transfer operation.
On Nov. 20 Mayor Dennis Lever noted that anyone who had been to the site recently would see how close it is to being full.
“It’s only got about another month before the changeover,” said Lever.
As of Dec. 31, the landfill portion of the facility will be full and the disposal operation closed.
A long-term transfer operation will remain for handling small business and residential waste and recycling only.
As of Jan. 1, the current Friday and Saturday transfer operations will be expanded to include Wednesdays (from 8am to 4pm all days). The three-day operation is consistent with other county transfer operations.
Existing recycling services have been maintained, however due to the limited area available at the site, only smaller waste bins can be provided for handling garbage.
This means that as of Jan. 1, larger commercial vehicles (cube vans, stake trucks, roll-offs, dump trucks, garbage packers, etc.) and farm vehicles will be redirected to alternate locations.
Final paving and landscaping at the Aberfoyle location are expected to occur in the summer of 2014.
