Kurtz Trucking is recognized for safety record

Brian Kurtz Trucking Limited has been recognized as the safest “small” carrier in North America.

President Brian Kurtz and  general manager Trevor Kurtz were in San Diego on March 15 to receive the honour at the  35th annual Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) National Fleet Safety Awards.

The company, located on  Speedvale Avenue, west of Guelph, won the award for truckload companies in the small carrier division (total annual mileage of less than 25 million miles).

“It’s quite an honour and we’re quite excited about it,” Trevor Kurtz told the Advertiser.

Brian Kurtz Trucking  was selected from among 18 division winners in the National Fleet Safety Division Awards announced in January. In order to be granted the prestigious grand prize, the company had to demonstrate it strives to meet stringent standards in overall safety programs, on and off the highway, and was judged to be the best in its commitment to improving safety.

“It doesn’t come from one person; the whole team won this award, from office staff to the drivers,” Trevor Kurtz said.

The company will be recognized a second time during TCA’s Safety and Security Division annual meeting May 15 to 17 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

In 2009, the Brian Kurtz Trucking’s insurance carrier audited its safety program and ranked the company against other insured carriers as well as industry best practices. It awarded Brian Kurtz Trucking with the highest score ever recorded for a first-time participant. In 2010, the company tied with another carrier for the highest score of any of the insurance company’s customer carriers.

For the past two years, Brian Kurtz Trucking also was named a TCA Best Fleet to Drive For.
