Jazz innovator Greg De Denus to perform in Eden Mills

Eden Mills Music at the Hall welcomes the Greg De Denus Trio on April 1 at 7:30pm.

The concert will take place at the Eden Mills Community Hall. Organizes state Eden Mills is proud to add this new jazz flavour to its music presentation program, and to put the spotlight on the community hall’s new baby grand piano, a legacy from the 2013 Jazz in the Barn concert with the late Peter Appleyard.

Canadian jazz pianist De Denus’ wide creative range, impressive technical ability, and uncompromisingly original improv’s have established him as a creative force in the jazz and improvised music communities.

Drummer Nick Fraser and bassist Dan Fortin complete the trio for the Eden Mills performance.

In March 2014 De Denus released his second album, Solo Piano Live at Gallery 345 on NYC’s Pet Mantis Records. The material finds the space where composition and improvisation meet, blending together elements of tonal, 20th century, and improvised music traditions into a cohesive whole.

De Denus has performed at the CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio, the Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Winnipeg Jazz Festivals, and is a regular at Toronto’s staple jazz club The Rex. He has played on dozens of award winning recordings as a sideman, most notably: Peter Lutek’s Engine, David Buchbinder’s Juno nominated Shurum Burum Jazz Circus, Barry Romberg’s national jazz award nominated Random Access 3, and composer/arranger Shelly Berger, Look Up. He has been nominated as a Galaxie Rising Star (National Jazz Awards) and Emerging Artist of the Year (Distillery Jazz Festival).

Proceeds from the concert will go to the Eden Mills Community Hall.

The concert is scheduled for April 1 at 8pm and doors open at 7:30pm at the Eden Mills Community Hall (104 York Street, Eden Mills).

Tickets are $20 for adults and; $10 for students and can be purchased at the door.
