ELORA – Centre Wellington officials have  announced the appointment of Jason Benn as township fire chief, effective April 13.

Benn brings more than 25 years of dedicated service in the fire sector, including 18 years in senior leadership roles, officials say.

He most recently served as deputy fire chief – fire prevention and public education with Centre Wellington Fire Rescue.

Benn has provided leadership across fire suppression, prevention, investigation, public education and emergency management, while championing modernization, legislative compliance and continuous improvement, township officials say.

“On behalf of council, I am pleased to welcome Jason Benn as our new fire chief,” stated Mayor  Shawn Watters in a press release.

“Benn’s extensive experience, leadership and dedication to public safety make him an excellent choice to lead Centre Wellington Fire Rescue.

“We are confident that under his leadership, the department will continue to grow and serve our community with professionalism and care.”

Benn stated in the release, “It is an honour to serve as fire chief for Centre Wellington Fire Rescue and to work alongside such a dedicated and highly skilled team.

“I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place, strengthening our connection with the community, and continuing to support the safety and well-being of our residents.”

Township officials say they would like to extend their sincere appreciation to former fire chief Tom Mulvey for his many years of dedicated service and leadership.

“Chief Mulvey’s commitment to the organization and the community has helped shape Centre Wellington Fire Rescue into the respected and trusted service it is today,” the release stated.

“The township looks forward to Chief Benn’s leadership, vision, and continued commitment to protecting and serving the community.”
