Janet Wilson launches book as part of local Earth Day activities

Janet Wilson, writer, artist and illustrator, launches her most recent book about young people making a difference in Eden Mills, her home village, on Saturday, April 26 at 2 pm.

Severn and The Day She Silenced the World is hot off the press.  The book launch is part of Eden Mills Village Earth Day activities under the auspices of “Eden Mills Going Carbon Neutral”.

Wilson will make a presentation from 2 to 3pm in the Club Room at the Eden Mills Community Hall.

Severn Cullis-Suzuki, the subject of the book, has continued to promote  environmental sustainability since that day in 1992 at the first Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro when, at 12 years of age, she asked the international dignitaries and environmental policy-makers

“If you don’t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it.”

This story is inspirational to all young Canadians.

Wilson’s commitment to highlighting the achievements of young activists, in this book and many more before it, is inspired and widely recognized.

Wilson is a supporter of “Eden Mills Going Carbon Neutral” the host for this Book Launch.

Earth Day and community tree planting since the project’s inception in 2007 has sequestered six per cent of the village carbon emissions, building on the more than 50% of emissions sequestered by the existing vegetation.

Young trees are provided by Wellington County’s Green Legacy program.

Household emissions have also been reduced by more than 20%.  Eden Mills aims to be the first carbon neutral village in North America.
