Investment simulations entering WCDSB classrooms
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Learning to invest and manage finances early on can have a lasting positive effect on today’s youth as they leave the classroom.
With that in mind, investment simulations are gaining popularity across the Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB).
Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School is one of the schools to include “The Stock Market Game,” which allows students to understand and view the stock market by investing with play money.
Some Grade 9 and 10 business classes at Bishop Macdonell have included the game into the curriculum.
The high school also runs an investment/business club that runs a year-long investment challenge, according to WCDSB communications lead Bianca Pettinaro.
“Students meet every two weeks to discuss the current state of the market, trends/changes and review their portfolios,” she said.
Students also receive business-related awards at the end of the year.
“The focus is not on day trading but on long-term investment strategies,” Pettinaro said.
Upper Grand District School Board officials did not respond by the Community News press deadline.
