Building activity here in May outstripped similar activity in the same month last year by about $500,000.

Chief building official Darren Jones reported to council on June 9 that building activity for May came in at slightly more than $2.9 million compared to $2.45 million in May last year. This year’s activity generated $34,164 in building fees.

The township also announced the hiring of an interim building inspector on June 12 to assist in the department. In a June 12 press release, the township announced the hiring of David Kopp as the interim building inspector.

Kopp previously served in the building department in Mapleton since 2006. He became Mapleton’s chief building official in 2011 where he served until his retirement in 2013.

He will serve in the interim position in Wellington North until a full time building inspector is hired.
