OPP: human remains located near Mount Forest identified as missing person

WELLINGTON NORTH – Wellington County OPP have identified the human remains located on May 4 just south of Mount Forest as missing person, 30-yr-old Levi Edward LARTER. He was last seen on Nov. 8, 2020. Police believe this is an isolated incident with no threat to public safety.

Police said human remains had been located “in the bush in a rural area” just south of Mount Forest.

Wellington County OPP responded to the location, near Highway 6 south of Sideroad 5 West, on May 4 shortly after 6:30pm, when someone reported finding the remains.

“A post-mortem examination will be conducted in an attempt to identify the remains and determine a cause of death,” police stated in a May 5 press release.

“Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.”

Police said the investigation, which was “in the early stages,” was being conducted by the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario.
