Howlett retiring after 24 years

Public Works Superintendent Jim Howlett has announced plans to retire this spring after 24 years of service to Puslinch and 34 years combined between the township and the county.

In his resignation letter, a portion of which was read at the Feb. 2 meeting by Mayor Dennis Lever, Howlett said it has been “an honour and a privilege” to serve Puslinch Township.

“Thank you for your contribution over the years,” Lever told Howlett. He added he really enjoyed the recent roads tour and was pleased with the information Howlett provided during that tour.

Added councillor Jerry Schmidt, “You’ve done a commendable job ... I can’t say enough; the roads are in good shape.”

Councillor Susan Fielding said it’s sad to see one of the “faces of Puslinch Township” leave and thanked Howlett for all his work and that of his staff.

“It’s going to be a different place without you,” Fielding  said. “Good luck and lots of happiness.”

Councillors Wayne Stokley and Ken Roth also offered their best wishes. Howlett did not say much, except when asked what he plans to do after he retires.

“Play a bit more golf,” he said with a smile.
