Hooves for Hospice rides again
FERGUS – Local riders are preparing themselves for the local fundraiser for Hospice Wellington.
The event is slated for Oct. 17 on property owned by founder Lynn Smillie, just outside Fergus at 6065 4th Line. She promises a great ride through beautiful countryside, followed by a hot chili lunch and lots of camaraderie.
“A super friendly bunch of riders,” one person commented after a ride.
The entry fee is $85 and includes the ride and lunch. Entrants are asked to get folks to sponsor them and there will be prizes for the top fundraisers.
Riders must wear helmets must sign waivers and require OEF/CRHRA coverage.
Riders can choose one of three levels of difficulty for their ride: walk/trot/canter, walk/trot, or walk only.
Check-in is from 8:30 to 10:30 and the ride begins at 11am. And it happens rain or shine, organizers say.

“Hooves for Hospice is now in its ninth year, thanks to strong continued support in our community,” states the event website.
“In 2025, we raised over $12,000 for Hospice Wellington, and we hope to surpass that goal this year.”
The funds raised go towards supplies for the Hospice Wellington kitchen, for the families supporting their loved ones.
