GUELPH – The University of Guelph is almost ready to release its Holiday Giving Guide and officials are reporting significantly higher participation this year.
The annual digital publication connects people with organizations in need of donations and volunteers.
This year’s guide is set to be published on Nov. 28.
“The guide has a refreshed look and format, and features 46 local non-profits, charities and grassroots collectives, as well as a new addition called Give Back While Gifting,” Jess Detweiler told the Advertiser.
The Holiday Giving Guide is created by the university’s Student Volunteer Connections (SVC) group, where Detweiler is completing a co-op placement as programming and events assistant.
Detweiler, a former Elora resident currently studying international food security and agriculture, is spearheading the guide this year.
“We know that as the weather grows colder and the nights grow longer, the need for warmth, connection and support becomes even greater,” Detweiler writes in an introduction to the guide.
“This publication serves as a guide for all members of the [Guelph-Wellington]community seeking to give back during the Winter Holidays – whether through monetary contributions, item donations or volunteer service,” she continues.
The guide outlines specific requests from different organizations for support over the holiday season.
These organizations include the Centre Wellington Food Bank, Elora Singers, Eden Mills Writers’ Festival, the Grove Youth Wellness Hubs, Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington, Hospice Wellington, Community Living Guelph-Wellington, Eden House Care Facility, the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo-Wellington, the Learning Disabilities Association of Wellington County, Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis and Habitat for Humanity Guelph-Wellington.
