History comes to life on June 23 with Puslinch spirit walk

Get into the spirit of local history as the Puslinch Historical Society hosts its fourth annual Spirit Walk on June 23 at 7pm.

The event, held in Crown Cemetery, opposite Duff’s Church, Aberfoyle, just north of #401 on  Brock Road, focuses on the lives of local pioneers.

Members of the society tell the life stories of five people buried in Crown Cemetery.

This year the theme is ‘pioneer tradesmen’ and some examples of their crafts  can still be found in the buildings of Puslinch.

These include:

– Roderick McKay, carpenter;

– Otto Rappolt, stonemason;

– William Graham, millwright;

– James Leachman, blacksmith; and

– Johann Stein, cooper;

The tour takes about an hour and there is a stop at each headstone while the subject’s life story is told. Occasionally, no headstone can be found and we have to rely on documentation.

Those taking part in the tour are asked to meet at the rear entrance to the cemetery off Nicholas Beaver Road (at Tim Hortons on Brock Road, Aberfoyle).

This event is open to anyone interested in Puslinch genealogy. Puslinch Historical Society was founded in 1986 and is run by volunteers.
