Hike for Hospice raises nearly $110,000 for Hospice Wellington
GUELPH – Hospice Wellington has announced its 22nd annual Hike for Hospice, held June 7, raised $109,785 to help fund its programs and services.
More than 500 participants came together as members of Circle of Care, both a philosophy and practice of the agency which provides palliative care and associated programs.
“We celebrated, remembered loved ones, and together, raised critical funds for the compassionate care Hospice Wellington provides to our community,” officials stated in a news release.
“A heartfelt thank you to every hiker who fundraised and raised awareness, and to everyone who supported a hiker with a donation.”
Top fundraisers for the event included:
- Laura Mann, who raised $3,937;
- Joe Robinson, $3,665; and
- Doreen McRitchie, $3,135.
The top fundraising teams included:
- The Village People, which raised $20,386;
- The Divas, $8,025; and
- Stackers, $4,830.
Financial sponsors included Boreal Pet Food, RWDI, Chartwell Retirement Residences, Market Fresh, and Prime Care Pharmacy.
In-kind donors included Zehrs, Sunbelt Rentals, Starbucks, Chocolats Favoris, Gillian Foster Photography, and Play With Clay.
Officials also thanked the team of volunteers, the board of directors and guest speakers including Penny Van Esterik from “The Village People,” Guelph MP Dominique O’Rourke and Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner.
Thanks also went out to Dr. Kirstie Griffiths for leading a warm-up and to everyone who made the dog costume contest a hit.
“This year’s event honoured the personal connections that bring us all to Hospice Wellington.
“As vital members of our Circle of Care, you have helped share the importance of what we do,” officials stated.
