MINTO – Highway 89 was closed between Harriston and Mount Forest for a couple of hours on Thursday after an OPP cruiser was struck while on a traffic stop.

Wellington County OPP officials say two pickup trucks sideswiped each other while travelling in opposite directions on Highway 89 at about 7:30am on April 2.

"As a result of the collision, a flatbed trailer, which was being towed by one of the pick-up trucks, dislodged and propelled into a nearby [OPP] cruiser, which was on an unrelated traffic stop on Highway 89, just north of Harriston," police stated in a press release.

No one was injured but both pickup trucks, the dislodged trailer and the OPP cruiser were damaged.

"The vehicle that was pulled over by the OPP was not damaged and no injuries were reported either," police stated.

Highway 89 was closed between Harriston and Mount Forest for the investigation, but police announced at 9:25am that the road was reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information or dashcam footage, can contact police at 1-888-310-1122.
