High school locked down after discovery of pellet gun

It turns out a lockdown at Centre Wellington District High School here on Sept. 29 was the result of a pellet gun.

At approximately 9:50am Wellington County OPP officers responded to a report of a gun spotted in the back seat of a student vehicle at the school, which was in a lockdown as a result of the discovery.

Police, along with the school resource officer attended and secured the gun, which was identified as a pellet gun.

A 16-year-old student was identified and arrested and later released unconditionally.

The Wellington County Crime Unit and the Wellington County Street Crime Unit and the Traffic Management unit assisted in the investigation.

“Cooperation between the Upper Grand District School Board and members of the OPP facilitated a safe and quick response to the incident,” stated police in a press release.
