GUELPH – The Helper Bees Outreach Program of the Church of Apostles wants to collect 250 pairs of shoes or boots to distribute to the community.
Launching on July 14, collection boxes will be placed at the Church of the Apostles (86 Glasgow, St N, Guelph) and the Guelph Tool Library (55 Wyndham St. N, unit 115).
The aim of the Reboot Program is to collect 250 pairs of shoes to distribute to community partners who work with those seeking help in downtown Guelph.
The program is accepting all types of shoes and boots including children’s shoes and dress shoes.
Volunteers will examine, clean, and repair donated footwear.
The items will then be distributed to community organizations including Rachel’s Saturday Table, Chalmer’s Community Service Centre and Hope House.
Footwear that is too damaged to be distributed will be recycled by TerraCycle Canada.
Through a prepaid program, TerraCycle recycles up to 98% of the components of submitted footwear by breaking them down into their constituent parts.
The Program is funded through the City of Guelph Community Grant Program with the goal of helping those in need and diverting waste from landfill.
Donations can be dropped off at the Church of the Apostles and the Guelph Tool Library with more locations to be added.
The Reboot Program does not accept ski boots, ice skates, cycling shoes, roller blades or skates.
However, all other shoes including work boots, dress shoes (including heels), sandals and children’s shoes are accepted.
