It was two outstanding days for Chili Fest in Rockwood and Erin on Oct. 10 and 11.
Many community members joined East Wellington Community Services for a bowl of chili all in support of the United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin, a cornerstone funding partner of the agency and which funds more than 80 local programs within the County of Wellington and Dufferin areas.
“Our goal was to raise $1,000 … and while we didn’t quite reach our goal; we still raised over $100 more than last year and just had a lot of fun. Our compliments to our many chili chefs who donated pots of chili for both events and to our agency staff and volunteers who helped in coordinating this event. I can’t wait for next year … I hope the weather will be as fantastic as it was this year,” said Erika Westcott, Manager of Community and Volunteer Services.
“Through both days, we raised $828 and had a lot of fun. Chili Fest has grown into such popularity, that we ran out of chili at both locations before 2pm … even though we had more chili to serve than ever before.”
New winners were crowned with “best of the fest” honours based on the fierce voting from those who attended Chili Fest.
In Rockwood, the honours for best of the fest were awarded to Mark Bouwmeester.
In Erin, it was a tie, with the honours being awarded to Kari Simpson (EWCS Executive Director) and Derrick Westcott.
“Thank you to all those who came out and enjoyed a bowl of chili with us in support of the United Way and for your ongoing support of EWCS. See you at Chili Fest 2014,” organizers stated.
