Health unit website to include expanded inspection reports

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is upgrading its on-line website of inspection reports, said  unit communications specialist Sharon Ord.

The health unit has operated the website checkbeforeyouchoose.ca since last year.

It has focused on inspection reports of eating establishments but by the fall the website will also include inspection results from spas and other personal service settings.

“These services include tattooing, body and ear piercing, hair salons, manicures, pedicures and aesthetics,” said Ord.

“Public health inspects these services annually to make sure they are following best practices to minimize the risk of blood borne diseases and other infections.”

The website reported 8,079 visits in 2013, with each visit lasting about five minutes.

“Members of the public will be able to make an informed decision about where to go for a personal service,” Ord said of the reports to be posted on the health unit website.
