Flu season is already underway and it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to provide protection.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) has been hosting flu clinics recently in Fergus, Orangeville and Guelph. To find a clinic call 1-800-265-7293 or visit www.wdgpublichealth.ca. Appointments can also be made to attend an immunization clinic at a public health office. Locations include Mount Forest, Guelph, Orangeville, Fergus and Shelburne.

Public health will also be offering an alternative to the needle. A nasal spray called FluMist is only offered at public health locations by appointment. FluMist will be available at the beginning of November, however it is not publicly funded and costs $20.

WDGPH oversees the distribution of all flu vaccine to health care professionals and to 55 participating pharmacies in the region.
