HARRISTON – You have one evening to cook a three-course dinner, make peace with your parents, get married in your grandmother’s dress and hide the fact you’re in labour.

What could possibly go wrong?

Having Hope at Home, which officials call a humorous and heartwarming study in family dynamics, is set to hit the stage at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre for six dates in April and May.

“It’s about a young couple who are living with her grandfather, and they are expecting a baby very soon, and she’s been estranged from her father and her mother, so they are getting together for a dinner, and things kind of blow up a bit,” said show director Caroline Wollis.

The Grey Wellington Theatre Guild production of acclaimed Canadian playwright David S. Craig’s play will put audiences on an emotional roller coaster as the play runs the gamut from comedic action to dramatic moments, Wollis said.

“It’s a comedy about family dynamics. You see how it brings the family together, that there is awkwardness, but things do get better. There’s a lot of humour, there’s some crying, there’s lots of different elements.”

The cast includes Flora Burke, Jennifer McDougall and Jason Rohrback of Mount Forest and Jeff Wood, Matthew Schlauch and Briar Chmatil of Listowel.

“They’re all experienced. They’re wonderful to work with, and they’re a lot of fun,” Wollis said.

Having Hope at Home runs April 24, 25, May 1 and 2 at 7:30pm and April 26 and May 3 at 2pm at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre, where the guild has recently installed upgraded seats to enhance audience comfort.

Tickets are $20 at Harriston Home Hardware and Walsh’s IDA in Mount Forest, or online through Zeffy at greywellingtontheatre.com. Tickets also available at the door or reserve at 519-338-2778 or gwtheatreguild@gmail.com.
