GUELPH-ERAMOSA - A Guelph woman is dead and her husband treated for injuries after the couple fell into the frigid waters of Guelph Lake while attempting to ice boat.

On Dec. 19 at about 3:30pm emergency crews were called to the lake after two people fell through the ice about 200 feet from shore.

Police say a couple was ice boating when one of the vessels fell through the ice. The husband attempted to aid his wife and both became trapped in the water.

Both were rescued from the lake and  rushed to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Margaret “Molly” Kurvin, 62, of Guelph, was pronounced dead in hospital. Her husband, a 62-year-old Guelph man, was treated at the hospital.

His condition was later updated as stable.
