Guelph residents charged in copper wire theft
GUELPH – Four people have been charged in connection with the theft of telecom wires.
Wellington County OPP officials say an officer on York Road in Guelph saw a group of people loading items into the back of a vehicle on March 2 at about 2pm.
“Upon further investigation, the officer recovered approximately $1,200 worth of copper telecommunication wire,” police stated in a March 4 press release.
“The damage to property and infrastructure is estimated to exceed $10,000.”
Guelph residents Scott Chapman, 47, Carrie McDermott, 37, Semir Abdulkadir, 46, and Kevin Tento, 43, were charged with possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000).
Chapman was also charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.
They are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
