Guelph Museum has many events coming

The Guelph Museum has a number of events happening over the next few months.

Egypt: Gift of the Nile, runs  Jan. 31 until March 29.

The travelling show from the Royal Ontario Museum ex­plores the Nile River Valley of 5,000 years ago; the birthplace of a remarkable civilization that flourished and endured for thousands of years. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, students and children, $10 for families. The museum is open daily 1 to 5 pm.

Forty Years Later: Still Keeping the Faith runs until April 26 at, McCrae House. It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2008. Photographs and ar­chival material document the history of John McCrae’s birth­place as it was saved from pos­sible demolition to become a national historic site. Admission and hours are the same as above.

Robbie Burns Day will be held at Guelph Civic Museum,  Jan. 18 1 to 4:30pm. Call 519-836-1221 or visit guelph.ca/­museum.

Celebrating the birthday of Scots’ Bard Robbie Burns, the event will include talks on Scotland, Scottish music, and dancing, displays, demon­stra­tions, haggis, oatcakes, short­bread and family activities.  Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and $12 for families 

The museum also offers the Guelph Civic Museum Lecture Series in partnership with the Laurier Centre for Military, Strategic and Disarmament Studies. Admission is free. On Jan. 15 at 7:30pm, Mike Bechthold will talk on Dieppe: A Rehearsal for D Day?

On Feb.12, at 7:30pm, Tim Cook, will speak on Trench Cul­ture in the Canadian Army in World War One.

There is a Valentine’s Tea – Feb. 13 at 2pm at  McCrae House. Bring a Valentine for tea.  McCrae Private Blend Tea, scones, jam, shortbread cookies and fresh berries are $12 (plus tax). there is limited seating. Tickets are available through ad­vanced purchase only by calling 519-836-1221

Spotlight On Heritage   is on Feb. 14 from 9:30 to 5pm at Stone Road Mall. Local heritage groups organize displays to celebrate Heritage Day. Call 519-836-1221.

Family Heritage Day  is on Feb. 16  1 to 5pm at Guelph Civic Museum. Enjoy an afternoon with the family at Guelph Civic Museum.  Half price ad­mis­sion.
