Guelph MP not running in 2015

Liberal MP Frank Valeriote announced on Nov. 14 he will serve out his term in the House of Commons, but will not run in the next federal election.

“Representing the people of Guelph is a great privilege. Service is an honour, but family is paramount and fatherhood is a greater honour,” Valeriote said. “It is for that reason that while I will continue to represent Guelph as its Member of Parliament until the next election is called, I will not be seeking re-election. As exciting as the prospect of being in government is, I must and want to be able to spend more time with my children.”

Valeriote was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2011, one of two Liberal MPs to increase his plurality.  He currently serves as the Liberal Party Veterans Affairs critic and is Deputy Whip.
