GUELPH – Guelph Family Martial Arts (GFMA) announced a successful weekend was had by its competition team recently at the Regional Martial Arts Championships in London, Ontario.
The team brought home 13 medals, including 10 gold, two silver and one bronze, alongside Grand Champion honours. Among the weekend’s highlights are:
– Chris Hordatt earned five gold medals, as well as 18+ Under Belt Grand Champion in Kata and Weapons for the second consecutive year;
– Deepali Rajpal captured gold in women’s lightweight sparring and was runner-up Grand Champion in 18+ Black Belt Women’s Fighting;
– Meghan McMurtry two gold medals in sparring;
– Rahul Dighade won gold in weapons, silver in sparring, and bronze in kata; and
– Reese Barker won a gold medal for sparring.
“This weekend was a true testament to the dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship of our athletes,” said Nathan Skoufis, head instructor.
“We’re incredibly proud of how our team represented not only themselves but also our city and community.”
GFMA athletes will be in action next at the grand nationals in September.
