WELLINGTON COUNTY – Join Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis on Dec. 6 at 2pm at Marianne’s Park (176 Gordon St.), to remember the 14 women killed in the École Polytechnique Massacre in 1989 and honour those who lost their lives to femicide in 2025.
Ontario’s femicide numbers actually decreased in 2025, making this year an opportunity to reflect on the successes of our collective work against gender-based violence and to think forward to the work that still needs to be done to get the number of femicides down to zero, officials say.
The shape of the work to come is currently being strongly contested at a provincial level, with a soon-to-be released government report on the subject facing sharp criticism and protest.
This is an in-person, outdoor event, so dress warmly for the weather.
Guests are encouraged to wear purple to show their support for survivors of gender-based violence.
For those who cannot attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis Facebook page.
Officials also encourage people to follow Guelph’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign (Nov. 25 to Dec. 10), which features local events and opportunities for the community to take action against gender-based violence.
The campaign can be followed on Instagram and Facebook at @gwwic or by visiting the event page at gwwomenincrisis.org/event/16-days-of-activism-against-gender-based-violence-2025/ for full details.
