Guelph man arrested for attempting to strike officer

GUELPH – A Guelph man was arrested early on Monday after attempting to strike a police officer.

Guelph Police officials say that at about 12:45am, police were at a downtown agency on an unrelated matter when staff asked them to help remove a man who had previously been banned. 

“Officers located the man and instructed him to leave, however he became argumentative and did not listen to their demands,” police stated in a press release. “A short time later the man was walking out followed by officers when he turned and attempted to hit one of them.”

A 63-year-old Guelph man was immediately placed under arrest for assaulting police and refusing to leave a premises when directed. He is to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 18.
