Guelph Humane Society returns to in-person adoptions

GUELPH – The Guelph Humane Society is holding its first in-person adoption event since moving into the new facility at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd. The Home for the Holidays adoption event is taking place this week on Dec. 10 and 11.

GHS has a goal of adopting out 40 animals during the event – 30 cats and 10 bunnies to be exact.

“Adoptions have been predominantly virtual since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” manager of marketing and communications Natalie Thomas states in a press release. “It has been a very successful process and we have adopted out over 1,100 animals this way since April 2020.

“But now that we have settled into our new home, and current public health restrictions allow us to have limited capacity in our adoption rooms, we thought the holidays would be a perfect time to get people back inside the building and interacting with animals that are looking for their new families. Looking for their Happy Tails.”

GHS says the focus of this event is on adopting out cats, including a dozen or so kittens, as well as small animals – particularly bunnies.

Those interested in coming to the adoption event to view the animals in person must register for an appointment. You can select either a cat adoption viewing or a bunny adoption viewing, which will give 20 minutes in the room with the animals.

“Anyone can book an appointment at www.guelphhumane.ca/holidays,” says Thomas. “There are still many spots available on Friday afternoon and evening as well as a few spots on Saturday. We are allowing three families into the adoption rooms at a time and each family is limited to two people.”

Many of the animals up for adoption this weekend have not yet been posted on the online adoption page.

“If you have been waiting to adopt an animal, now is the time,” Thomas adds. “You can come in see all of our cats, kittens and small animals that are available for adoption – and you can adopt them and bring them home with you.”
