Guelph General announces new VP of patient services, chief nursing executive
GUELPH – Guelph General Hospital (GGH) is has announced the appointment of Marisa Vaglica, registered nurse and certified health executive, as its new vice president, patient services and chief nursing executive (CNE).
“Marisa brings to GGH a wealth of clinical and operational expertise gained across diverse health car settings, with the last 14 years spent in senior leadership roles,” said officials in a press release.
“She has extensive experience in director level roles spanning nursing, health disciplines, organizational education and health system operations”
Joining the GGH team from North York General Hospital, Vaglica most recently served as the director of inter-professional practice, research and education. In this role, she was responsible for aligning care across the health system to ensure patients and their families were supported whether at home or in the hospital.
Graduating with a Master of Nursing from the University of Toronto in 2011, Vaglica is currently completing a Doctor of Nursing from the University of Calgary. She also received a certified health executive designation from the Canadian College of Health Leaders in 2019.
“We are thrilled to have Marisa join the Guelph General team,” stated GGH president and CEO Mark Walton in a press release.
“She will be responsible for leading a team of more than 1,120 clinical professionals and with her proven record of success in clinical governance, I am confident our teams will be even more empowered to deliver on our mission.”
Of key importance to Vaglica is advancing system innovation and quality improvement, which will be of great value to the hospital as it develops a Clinical Services Plan, officials say.
This comprehensive hospital-wide initiative uses health care data, the knowledge and experience of care teams, and innovative input from stakeholders to gain an understanding of current and future heath care needs to inform an evidence based strategic approach to service delivery, officials continue.
