ROCKWOOD – Guelph/Eramosa plans to host this year’s Warden’s Tree Planting event at Valentino Park in Rockwood.
The annual planting event has been organized by Wellington County’s Green Legacy Program since 2006.
It always takes place in the municipality of the current warden, which is now Guelph/Eramosa Mayor Chris White.
“We have undeveloped land behind the active parkland,” Jeff Myer, Guelph/Eramosa’s manager of parks and recreation, told council on July 7.
“And we are proposing that we do a tree plant in that area.”
Guelph/Eramosa has hosted four tree plants in previous years, the most recent being held in Valentino Park in 2014, when 2,100 trees were planted.
This year’s total will range anywhere from 900 to 2,000 trees.
The area allocated for the trees is just under two acres and, once the tree plan has concluded, will host a variety of trees.
“There will be a variety,” said Myers. “If you can think of it, it will be there.”
Myers told council he hopes to see a passive trail system put in once the trees have grown.
A final date for the tree planting is pending, as council seeks final approval on the location from the county.
